# Sustainability

Shine is built on AI. These systems consume significant water and energy, and the footprint is real.

We are building a model where our compute usage contributes directly to water restoration.

## Our footprint

Shine operates as a fully remote, distributed company with a low physical footprint. Our largest environmental cost comes from AI compute — the inference and model runs that power customer interviews, claim extraction, and asset generation.

## How we offset

As our product runs, a portion of our compute spend flows to organizations working on measurable water impact. The offset is proportional to actual usage, not a fixed annual pledge.

## Recipients

When the compute-linked model begins, our initial recipients are organizations focused on water systems in the Americas that publish outcome data we can evaluate. The Nature Conservancy is a representative example of the kind of organization we're aligned with: <https://www.nature.org/en-us/what-we-do/our-priorities/protect-water-and-land/>.

Watershed health and groundwater systems across the Americas. Impact and accountability data must be public for us to direct funds.

## Why this approach

We don't make abstract sustainability pledges. The offset is tied to the actual cost driver (compute), the recipients publish outcome data, and the program scales with our business — not separate from it.
